Story and Details

Part of what defined Omega in the late 90s/early 2000s was its “My Choice” ad campaign. In various print advertising forms, a range of Omega models were the watch of choice of legendary racing drivers, like Andretti and Schumacher, dashing film stars like Pierce Brosnan, and supermodels like Elle MacPherson and Cindy Crawford.

So who’s watch of choice was the Omega Speedmaster Professional? We all know that answer and it's storied history... In 1963, NASA chose the Speedmaster out of a lineup of watches which included the likes of Longines-Wittnauer, Rolex and Hamilton, to be fitted on the wrists of their astronauts. Then in 1966, NASA chose the Speedmaster to be the official watch of the Apollo program. And finally on July 20th, 1969, the Speedmaster became the first watch worn on the moon.

While the Omega Speedmaster Professional Ref. 3570.50.00 pictured here may not be NASA’s original choice, you wouldn’t be mistaken for thinking so. Apart from the bracelet and year it was made, everything else on the Ref. 3570.50.00 is just as it was on the moon watch - the Ref. 105.012 from 1965 well-known to be worn by Neil Armstrong. Even the movement is a descendant of the calibre 321 used in that famous version of the model.

The fact that the Speedmaster Professional has remained virtually unchanged since it was NASA’s choice for the moon, speaks volumes about its robustness and timeless design. And it reminds us why NASA chose for the Speedmaster Professional to be immortalized in the history books as the Moon Watch.

    Amazing selection of timeless ads

An original ad is the perfect accompaniment to your favorite watch or a cool gift. I recently gave this ad to a buddy to celebrate his first Speedmaster and he was blown away. Nick’s selection is great and each piece is securely mailed and ready to frame unless you have them do it.
