Story and Details

Being under pressure can burn a building down, split a family in two, or put people out on the street. But in Tudor’s case, being under pressure is precisely what the Tudor Submariner Ref. 76100 was designed to do - and thrive and survive. Not only does this ad list all the impressive specs which make this watch capable, such as the 100 fathoms of water resistance and the case being carved from a single piece of surgical stainless steel. But the cut-away, technical drawing of the Ref. 76100 “Lollipop” shows us just how Tudor combined each layer to make a watch worthy of fitting into Tudor’s catalogue of the “Toughest, Strongest, Surest” wristwatches.

In an age where much of the watch industry geared itself towards aspirational luxury, this ad is a statement from Tudor that their efforts were to create a watch for everyday wear - ready for anything life throws at it. Whether washing your hands at 0.01 meters, vacation saturation in the deep end of the hotel pool, or professional dives to depths over 40 meters, a Tudor Submariner will be countlessly reliable (assuming you’ve screwed down the crown properly).  There’s something about Tudor showing the construction of Ref. 76100 in this ad which inspires the confidence to actually take a dive watch such as this beyond the desk…

The Tudor Submariner has proven itself popular not just because of its rich, storied history of performance, especially on the wrists of members of various militaries around the world. It’s also popular today because of its lineage to Rolex, the resurgence of the Tudor brand, and its design.

Speaking of design, Tudor lovers and collectors are more than familiar with the various references and iterations of the Submariner over the decades. However, despite the longevity and aesthetic evolution of the model, I’ve come across less than a handful of magazine ads showing the Tudor Submariner. And nothing older than 1980, making this particular ad extra-special. It’s 1 of only 3 Tudor Sub ads I’ve found seemingly directly from the brand (with no jeweler or retailer name), is a true full page, and in full color.

    Excellent Framing and Communication

In addition to having an excellent selection of vintage ads, Nick is one of the best framers in the business. His team perfectly matches border colors to the patina of the paper and ensures each frame complements the ad contained within. Communication is excellent throughout the entire process, from initial purchase to delivery of the finished product.

    My Favorite Tudor Ad

I had seen this ad around a few times and always loved it as I hadn’t seen anything else like it. I was able to pick it up at the Windup Watch Fair in Dallas this March! Really happy to have been able to pick it up!
