Story and Details
While it's widely thought the perfect co-pilot for a flight - for a captain or passenger - is a GMT Master wristwatch, it could also be said the perfect compliment to a GMT Master advertisement is the Concorde. This pairing will forever go down in Rolex marketing history as the one of the most-effective, legendary relationships, just like the partnership between France and the U.K. to build the Concorde. To this day, the age of the Concorde fascinates us. Wearing GMT Masters, and framing the many vintage ads featuring the supersonic aircraft keep that spirit alive. This particular GMT Master ad is a very-unique version... Besides being an oversized page, and in color, it's extra-special because it's the only GMT Master advertisement showing the airliner with its wheels up. And the Concorde shown is prototype 002, which is confirmed by the "G-BSST" identification that's clearly visible. This specific British-built Concorde made its maiden flight on April 9, 1969 and was piloted by Brian Trubshaw, who is mentioned, and makes appearances, in several Rolex ads. And since this is a Rolex ad, the specific reference shown must be discussed... Being in color, we see it's a solid gold Ref. 1675, but not just any 18 ct. gold GMT... Like the ad is a unique example, so too is the version of the GMT shown, noted by its straight hour hand and extra-slim minute hand. I believe it's this ad, and other Rolex ads combining a gold GMT Master with the Concorde, that inspired collectors to call this configuration the "Concorde GMT."

I was looking for a nice colorful piece of art for the office. This one from Ad Patina is so iconic and unique that I had to have it! I love the vintage feel of this piece. I do recommend upgrading to a custom frame when possible. Personally, I love classier and more premium look of the thinner frames. Can’t wait for my next purchase!

As Nick notes in the description, copies of this one are getting harder to find. It’s a beautiful ad, but what really makes it special is the extraordinarily high level of customer service Nick provides. Attention to detail with packing and shipping is so undervalued—but not here. An a very thoughtful hand-written note was included. A+.
