When you see this advertisement, it's the bright clownfish that stands out. Certainly that's what my kids notice right away and then immediately shout "Nemo!" And like watching the Disney movie makes them happy, I find looking at the neon orange fish against the purple anemone brings me joy. Simply put, it's fun. Like you're looking into an aquarium. Or at the very least, a fishbowl. But the real treasure of the ad is discovering the man who took the photograph... His name is David Doubilet, and like most Rolex ambassadors, he's at the top of his field. Of course you'd expect a legendary underwater photographer to be associated with a legendary dive watch. So it should come as no surprise that Rolex ads highlighting the career of David Doubilet are often complimented with a Submariner. But of all the ads David appears in alongside a Submariner, I find this particular ad to be the best... That's partly because I started noticing Rolex watches in the mid-1990s, so I've got a soft spot for the classic, all steel, tritium dial Ref. 16610. And of course, I'm a dad, so the Nemo connection gets me every time.
