The Marketplace for the Best Vintage Watch Ads

Framed Ads - For Sale

The Framed Ad Shop is a museum of vintage ads. Or rather, a gallery, because you can purchase these pieces of art to hang and enjoy in your home or office - or give as a gift!

The ever-changing collection is made up of the most-popular sellers, rare ads, as well as some I think are under-appreciated. The experience of seeing an advertisement framed, under glass, is much like viewing a photograph or painting at an exhibition. The power of framing is that it forces you to slow down and appreciate the design and significance of the art before you…

As ads sell out, you’ll see the Framed Ad Shop restock with the classics as well as fresh, new finds! These are the finished product - Ready To Go!

Ad Patina x Analog/Shift

In late May, 14 rare and hard-to-find vintage watch ads popped-up on Analog/Shift. This was a fun collaboration between their team and I to share, what we feel, are some truly special pieces of watch history (as cool as the watches!). To date, 10 out of the 14 advertisements have sold out (Thank You!). The remaining 4 are listed below...

If you love one, click for more info and to purchase on Analog’s website.

1966 Asprey’s Rolex Collection

“that beautiful Rolex family portrait draw you in. But if you can look deeper, these watches are significant for other reasons…”

1971 Omega Speedmaster Mark II

“Viewing the tonneau-shaped case at this grand scale, it’s as if your eye is being pulled in by the gravity of the timepiece…”

1968 Omega Speedmaster Chronograph

“this ad provides a curious context - it reminds us that the Speedmaster had a life long before it rocketed into orbit...”

1970 Heuer “Siffert” Autavia

“Before the Apple watch, this is what a 'computer' on your wrist looked like. What cutting edge technology was for the day…”

1966 Rolex Daytona Ref. 6239

1966 Omega “Wrist Computers”

Nowadays a vintage Daytona is a prized possession for a collector. 50 plus years ago it was just a prize for winning a big race. Times sure have changed...

Dimensions: 13” x 15 5/8” (33cm x 39.7cm)

I’m a big fan of ads that highlight a brand as much as they feature a specific model. That Speedy and astronaut may jump out at you, but what you’re really getting here is an Omega ad…

SOLD OUT ($255)

Approx. Dimensions: 12 1/4” x 15 1/4” (31.1cm x 38.7cm)

1978 Patek Philippe Steel Nautilus

1968 Rolex Submariner “Lost Empires”

This ad is as relevant today as it was forty years ago… From its detail to its air of regalness. And of course, the price of a Nautilus is still a talking point today…

Dimensions: 12 1/8” x 15 3/8” (30.8cm x 39cm)

This ad captures the essence of the Submariner: A watch meant to be in the water. A watch meant for actual divers and to inspire the underwater explorer in all of us…

Dimensions: 12” x 15 1/8” (30.5cm x 38.4cm)

1961 Rolex Submariner “Marianas Trench”

1965 “Solo” Daytona Ref. 6239

What better way to instill confidence among divers in a relatively new submersible watch than by assuring them it has similar features as a watch that safely dove to 36,000 feet…

Approx. Dimensions: 12 3/8” x 15 5/8” (31.5cm x 39.5cm)

Perhaps the first ad for the “Daytona” this proclamation features a watch with only “Rolex” printed on the dial… Proof the dial is genuine and is correct for at least certain 6239s…

Approx. Dimensions: 12 15/16” x 15 1/2” (32.9cm x 39.4cm)

1969 Steel GMT “Flying the Concorde”

1968 GMT-Master “Piloting a Jet”

The Concorde may be retired, but the GMT is still going strong… This ad is a nice reminder of the luxury of travel. When watches were bought for a purpose and worn day in and day out.

Approx. Dimensions: 13 1/4” x 15 5/8” (33.7cm x 39.7cm)

Back when passengers dressed up for air travel, I imagine many a pilot wore a wristwatch with a time zone function - to help combat jet lag. And I can’t think of a better tool than a GMT-Master.

SOLD OUT ($295)

Approx. Dimensions: 11 7/8” x 14 7/8” (30.2cm x 37.8cm)

*free domestic shipping

1959 GMT-Master Ref. 6542

1966 Rolex Explorer “Top of the Matterhorn”

An unreal, rare 60-year-old ad with shimmering bakelite insert intact and oozing radium. A far cry from today’s GMTs and their Cerachrom/ceramic bezels sprinkled with platinum…

SOLD OUT ($475)

Approx. Dimensions: 11 3/4” x 14 3/4” (29.8cm x 37.5cm)

The top-selling ad of 2018. I think you can see why… A Pulitzer-worthy photograph, combined with a vintage Explorer, plus a headline that rings true for really any Rolex model…

SOLD OUT ($345)

Approx. Dimensions: 12 7/8” x 16” (32.8cm x 40.4cm)

*free domestic shipping

1968 GMT-Master “Concorde” 18kt.

What better watch to appreciate a color, vintage Rolex ad than a gold GMT. The vibrancy and tactility of the watch really show! Plus you can easily imagine yourself on that tarmac…

SOLD OUT ($285)

Approx .Dimensions: 11 3/4” x 15 1/8” (29.7cm x 38.4cm)

1967 Omega Speedmaster X NASA

That Speedmaster orbiting outer space just like the astronaut wearing it… This is the quintessential ad that shows the longstanding history between Omega and NASA.

SOLD OUT ($350)
